Thank you Real Simple for letting the dudes know it’s okay to like a scented candle! The Dude No.1 Candle contains notes of Virginia cedarwood, green coriander and pink peppercorn. Hand-poured in Brooklyn with a soy, vegetable and beeswax base and a 100% cotton wick.
Our Dude No.1 All-Natural Cologne came out earlier this month and we’re feeling the love online. Here are a few links from around the web:
American Express has been running these small business commercials on TV and actually, several of the stores MCMC is sold in are in it, including Fellow Barber and General Store in San Francisco. I’ve seen this commercial a hundred times, but today (during a little YouTube break at the studio – we may or may not have been watching the Bound 2 parody) I noticed that our Dude No.1 Beard Oil makes an appearance.
One of the funnest parts of owning a business is seeing which of the things you put out into the world really take off. A few years ago we released our Dude No. 1 Beard Oil. I had originally made this scented oil as a Christmas gift for my husband. He’s not into spraying fragrance on, so I made a spicy wood scent and put it in a fat roll-on bottle. Soon his friends wanted some, and eventually they convinced me to release it as part of my line. Together we came up the name Dude No.1, which is of course totally tongue in cheek. The Dude No. 1 Beard Oil totally took off, sparking the whole category of beard oil (which didn’t exist before!) and getting press in GQ, Vanity Fair, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Cup of Jo, Nylon, you name it. Seriously, it astounded me.
One of the things I kept hearing is how much people loved the fragrance – men and women! Finally, finally, three years later, we’re releasing our Dude No. 1 Cologne. Based on our wildly popular beard oil, it’s blend of three woods – Virginia cedarwood, creamy sandalwood and smoky Haitian vetiver – accented by spicy ginger and pink peppercorn with a heart of Moroccan rose.
Enjoy : ) xoxo
Susannah came by my studio last year wearing an awesome large brimmed hat and told me about Freda, the new shop she opened in Marfa, TX. I’ve always wanted to visit Marfa and then she told me about all of the hot springs in the region – sold! A special piece of trivia: there is only one perfume brand sold in all of Marfa, and it’s MCMC at Freda.

I received this email from a customer today and thought I’d just answer it here for all of you others possibly interested!
Hi. I live in Montreal and love Dude #1. Do you sell it here? Want to get it for my bf. He doesn’t have a beard though. Is that what beard oil really is for? Do you make an aftershave or cologne in that scent? My guy friend says the scent from the beard oil does not stay that long. Do you have another form of Dude #1 that does? I just can’t get enough of it! Worst case, do you ship to Montreal? Extra cost? Thanks – Marigny L.
I’ll address the international shipping concerns first. Yes, we do ship internationally! You’ll find that question and answer on our FAQ page. We ship flat rate international USPS to almost any country in the world for USD$16.95. We currently do not have any stockists in Montreal, but we do have a few throughout Canada – check them out on our stockists page.
Now, as to the questions specifically on the product. I created the Dude No. 1 beard oil for my husband as a gift several years ago. Being kind of a…dude, he’s not typically into traditional spray fragrances (he wears MCMC now though!). I created an organic jojoba and hemp seed oil based formula rich in natural essential oils to lightly moisturize and scent his beard. The concentration of fragrance is 10%; lower than most fragrance products as I was aware he’d be wearing it close to his nose. Even if you don’t have a beard, you can rock Dude No. 1. Simply roll onto the pulse points on your wrists and neck. I know many ladies who love the scent and use it. Lastly, we offer a Dude No. 1 Candle and an eau de cologne is in the works for early 2013.
The Dude No. 1 Candle, to compliment the ever popular Dude No. 1 Beard Oil. With notes of Virginia cedarwood, sandalwood, coriander and pink peppercorn. This candle is hand-poured in Brooklyn, with a blend of soy, vegetable and beeswax, with a 100% cotton wick.
